iPhones are one of the most loved smartphones in the world and also Apple’s most popular product. Since the launch of the first iPhone in 2007, the smartphone has come a long way with a number of iterations released over the years. The new models sport a great number of enhancements over their predecessors, both in software and hardware, to bring out the best possible performance.
A decade ago, things used to be simpler, though. It was easier to follow the new iPhones being launched. Initially, Apple didn’t launch a new iPhone every year. And even when it was being launched, there was usually only one model to keep up with.
But, over the past few years, Apple releases a new flagship model every year. And recently, each release comes with a few variants, that make it harder for some to keep things straight. If you, too, are confused, here’s a direct, no-nonsense guide to make things clear for you.
Latest iPhone Model for the Year 2022
The latest iPhone lineup this year is the iPhone 14 Series. It was launched on September 7th, 2022.
All four variants of the iPhone 14 series include:
- iPhone 14

iPhones 14 Plus and 14 Pro Max are the variants of iPhones 14 and 14 Pro respectively, where they each differ only in the screen size, sporting a 6.7″ screen instead of the 6.1″ screen on the latter models. So, we’ll cover the main features only for the two categories.

Is there an iPhone 14 Mini?
The iPhone 14 lineup this year does not include a Mini. Apple likes to keep changing things and while they released an iPhone 13 Mini last year to cater to the audiences who prefer a small screen size, they did not go in the same direction this year.
Instead, they went with an iPhone 14 Plus for users who prefer a bigger screen size.
Did Apple Release an iPhone SE this year?
iPhone SE is Apple’s affordable option for iPhone that debuted in 2016. Many users also prefer a handy model that doesn’t have a much bigger screen size. To tackle that group, Apple launched its SE series. iPhone SE was based on the design of the iPhone 5.
But a new model of iPhone SE is not released every year. The first generation iPhone SE was launched on March 21st, 2016. It was then discontinued in 2018 after the leaked specification from developers of iOS 14. iPhone SE 2nd generation was then launched in 2020 when there was a huge demand for a handy model, i.e., iPhone SE
And Apple released the 3rd generation of iPhone SE, also known as iPhone SE 3, earlier this year – on March 8th, 2022, to be precise.
Here are some key features of the iPhone SE 3:
- Screen size: 4.7″
- Apple A15 Bionic chip
- 12 MP main camera (f/1.8) {Rear camera}
- 7 MP front camera (f/2.2)
- Fingerprint sensor built into the home button
- Storage: 64 GB, 128 GB, 256 GB
- Colors: Starlight, Midnight, (PRODUCT) RED
- iOS: Originally comes with iOS 15.4; upgradable to the latest (iOS 16.2)
